“Put me down!” I demanded, eyes going wide with panic. “I’m not your play toy, Isshin! Put. Me. Down.”
He even had the nerve to smirk up at me. Damn him for looking so good doing that. “Awww, come on, Kisuke-chan!” He cocked his head to the side playfully. “You’re kind of light, you know that? Have you been eating at all since you were exiled?” The hands around my waist tightened and I knew he wasn’t joking, at least not about the eating part.
“Of course I’ve been eating, you imbecile,” I hastened to reply, the grip threatening to leave behind bruises if it wasn’t loosened soon. “I wouldn’t be kicking and screaming and telling you to put me down if I didn’t have some form of nutrients in me, yeah?” I childishly crossed my arms and turned my head away, ignoring his presence for the time being – never mind that he was holding me up at the moment like a little child.
Out of the corner of my eyes, I could see his expression soften and I breathed a silent sigh of relief when his hold on me slackened. Without that vice-like grip, this was almost pleasant, comfortable even. I shook my head before any daydreams could distract me from my objective – to be put down.
“Can I pleaseeeee get down, Isshin? This is humiliating.” I cut my eyes to the side coyly and lowered my bottom lip, giving him the ‘pleading Kisuke’ look for good measure.
It only proved to amuse him, if his chuckling was anything to go by. “And that’s not? Sheesh, you really are like a little kid sometimes, Kisuke-chan! Plus, I’m waiting for something.”
Blinking, I turned to look at him straight on, face blanking of emotion. “… Waiting? Waiting for what?” He doesn’t know, does he? God, please don’t let him know.
“For me!” a new voice entered the conversation.
I gaped slightly at the woman who had just waltzed in through the clinic’s entrance doors. “Y – Yoruichi! Why exactly do you have that camera?” I winced slightly as the bright flash went off, instinctively covering my eyes with one hand. “You know what? Never mind.” I didn’t even have to look to know she was laughing at me, as was Isshin – the soft chuckles coming from him, from so close, enough to tell me that much. Thankfully, he decided to put me down after the picture was taken and I could stand on solid ground once again. I readjusted my yukata, one side having slid down to expose my shoulder, and glowered at the both of them. I would have to do something about that picture. As if I would let these two blackmail me.
